A Little About...Two years ago I organized our first group campaign to send youth who would normally not have the opportunity to attend live theater. The show was The Wizard of Oz, so I named the fundraiser the "Wishes of Oz" campaign. Our group donated enough money to send five youth and one chaperone to the show. This idea was close to my heart because as a child I never had the opportunity see live theater, we just couldn't afford something like that, so I wanted to do something for underprivileged youth today. Now, in 2015, the cause is even nearer and dearer to my heart.
In 1998 when he was just 18 years old, John Gay created the nonprofit Bravo Theater Company. In June of that year he produced a two night benefit held at the Lesher Center in Walnut Creek, raising enough funds to donate $2,500 to AIDS research. Those of you who knew John know of his love for singing and theater. John passed away much too soon last September. In memory of John, his love of theater, and his Bravo Theater Company, I am raising this "Christmas Story Live" and all future campaigns under the umbrella of the JKG Bravo Youth Fund. That said, the purpose of the campaign is to raise funds for youth who would normally not be able to attend live theater. Every $25 raised will send one child to see A Christmas Story - The Musical at the Orpheum Theater in San Francisco on our group night, Friday December 11, 7:30 pm. Any contribution, even $5 will add up! You can contribute with credit/debit card on the page here to the left (once you begin entering an amount the "register" changes to "order", there is no registration process; Eventbrite unfortunately still charges a small credit card fee even for donations). If you are ordering your own tickets on the order page, you can add a donation there. If you prefer to send a check, you can mail to my personal address. Use the email icon below if you do not have my address all ready. Thank you!!! - Steele |
